Letter: Drug prohibition wrecks lives

Steve Clements, Legalise Cannabis Alliance

The Independent

Tuesday 13 Feb 2007

---
David Cameron should consider himself lucky. A criminal conviction for
possession of cannabis could have put an end to a promising career. How
many bright young lives have been, and are still being, wrecked through
school expulsions and criminal proceedings due to the insane prohibition
of this plant.

The alleged negative effects on a small minority of users pale into
insignificance compared with the damage being done by prohibition, and
the divide it has opened between millions of law-abiding people and the
authorities who administer justice for this so-called crime.

Mr Cameron asks that we respect the privacy of his past; I ask him if he
will respect my privacy now and allow me to make use of what is, after
all, just a plant.
