UK: Eviction Warning for Cannabis Gran
Gemma Somerville Hexham Courant
Thursday 22 Mar 2007 A 68-YEAR-OLD grandmother from Humshaugh could be evicted from her home after being convicted of growing cannabis on the premises. Patricia Tabram, of East Lea, dubbed “the cannabis gran”, has been warned by her housing association that she will be kicked out if she carries on using the drug. Mrs Tabram, who claims cannabis relieves her pain and depression, escaped jail earlier this month after being found guilty at Carlisle Crown Court of possessing and cultivating cannabis. Despite being given a 250-hour community service order, Mrs Tabram has insisted she will continue to “self-medicate”, prompting Milecastle Housing, with whom she is a tenant, to apply for a possession order on the property. Milecastle’s tenancy services manager Chris Scott said: “If the order is granted, Mrs Tabram will be allowed to continue living at the property only as long as she observes the terms of her tenancy agreement and specifically does not cultivate, possess or use cannabis in the property. “We will be monitoring this very closely.” http://www.hexham-courant.co.uk/news/viewarticle.aspx?c=304&id=479749
