US: Denver Police Arrest 78 People At Marijuana Rally
Rick Sallinger cbs4denver
Friday 20 Apr 2007 Police arrested 78 people at the rally, 64 of which were marijuana related, including 19 juveniles. "This park should be enjoyed by all citizens alike, and not have to be interfered with those who are breaking state law," said Virginia Quinoes with the Denver Police Department. The protesters called it a cannabis cultural holiday, but Denver Police were ready to ticket those who were smoking or who were in possession of marijuana paraphernalia. The annual celebration takes place on April 20 at 4:20. The meaning behind the date and time is unclear. Gorman lead the annual rally until last year. His murder is still unsolved. Gorman's daughter was in attendance. "He loved you guys, thank you for loving him," she said to the crowd. "Thank you for following in something that is real, something that is everybody's right." The smokers were upset with the police presence. "If Ken was here today, this would not have happened," said rally participant Brandon Carr. http://cbs4denver.com/topstories/local_story_110225932.html
