Argentina: Million Marijuana March (English)

Thursday 03 May 2007 Next Saturday 5 of May, at 16 o'clock, 30 hrs. in Bv. Oroño and the river, city of Rosary, for the sixth consecutive time, the traditional social demonstration in the framework of the Million Marijuana March, under the order to decriminalize the possession of drugs for personal consumption, to stop the arrests by consumption of marijuana, to defend the scientific investigation of the therapeutic uses of the cannabis. The encounter, as every year, is framed in the Million Marijuana March, an assembly to international level by an efficient and human, more just politics of drugs. Similar demonstrations will be carried out in 348 cities of 44 countries. The Damages Reduction Association of Argentina (BURN) formed ten years ago, to debate in our country on the subjective and social costs of the prohibition and the problems of the users of drugs from the dangers of the use and the associated myths around it, the dangers of its prohibition, its adulteration and the lack of information on them and the risks and damages related to the conditions in which its consumption is carried out. This work prompted in the different provinces, today is translated in the formation of new groups and organizations that add to this fight without fears to advance in a joint way. BURN insists that the penalty of the possession of drugs for personal consumption means for the consumer a setting of illegality and criminalization that it separated from the health system and that in Argentina a space should be given for the debate on the public politics of drugs and the failure of its prohibition.
