Portugal: Two Brits held, 5 tons of cannabis seized by police

Thursday 17 May 2007 LISBON - Portuguese authorities seized five tons of hashish and arrested three people on suspicion of drug smuggling, officials said Wednesday. Police arrested two British national and one Irish national suspected of forming part of an international drug smuggling operation, police said in a statement. The arrests were made in the region around Almodovar in south Portugal on Monday following several months of surveillance, the statement said. The suspects, who were all residents of Malaga in southern Spain, were handed over to judicial authorities, the statement said.
