UK: Three held after cannabis found

BBC Online

Wednesday 15 Aug 2007

Three people have been arrested after a cannabis factory with more than 1,500 plants was found in north Manchester.

A member of the public reported the site at the Lion Works, Old Market Street, Blackley, to police on Sunday.

Officers found the plants and about 40 kilos of cannabis bush stripped and bagged up inside the premises.

Two men, aged 20 and 21 and both from Birmingham, and a man from London have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

They are currently in police custody in Greater Manchester.

Supt Catherine McKay said: "This discovery is a real success for north Manchester police officers who are working on Operation Gladiator.

"This operation aims to put a stop to drug dealing, cultivation and drug-related crime in the area."
