Spain: A Big Drug Running Operation Broken
Typically Spanish Tuesday 18 Sep 2007 The gang used marinas on the Costa del Sol to smuggle the drugs into the country A Civil Guard operation in Málaga has broken up a network of drug runners which used marinas as the point of entry into Spain. Dubbed Operation Lida, it made 12 arrests and seized 1.2 tons of cannabis resin which were to be brought in to the coast via Marbella. Also impounded are three boats and an unspecified number of jetskis. The Civil Guard said in a press release that three property searches were made in San Pedro de Alcántara: a warehouse where the drugs were stored, a luxury mansion on the outskirts of the town and a flat in the town centre. Both these last were used by the leader of the gang, 34 year old A.A.M., who is one of those taken into custody. Two gang members had the job of fitting false bottoms to the boats used to smuggle the drugs, with staff from the nautical area near Puerto Banús also said to have been involved. The operation came with an investigation by the Organised Crime and Drugs Squad which began in June. http://www.typicallyspanish.com/
