UK: Warning at rise in skunk
Metro, London
Monday 15 Oct 2007 The most dangerous type of skunk accounts for around 75 per cent of cannabis raids by police, it emerged yesterday. The superstrength drug can be two to three times as powerful as other forms of cannabis, according to the Forensic Science Service. Total seizures of cannabis increased by 42 per cent this year – with five tonnes of the drug being confiscated in the first six months of the year compared with seven tonnes in the whole of 2006. Dean Ames, head of the FSS, said more skunk was being grown in Britain than ever before. He added: 'There is now an easy way to grow cannabis in this country because of the availability of equipment, specialist lighting and a cheap labour source through foreign nationals.' The revelation will increase pressure on Gordon Brown to restore cannabis to its former class B status after it was downgraded to class C in 2004. http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=70605&in_page_id=34
