UK: Cannabis grower is spared jail
Eryl Crump Daily Post
Friday 26 Oct 2007 A 36-YEAR-OLD man who grew cannabis walked free from court yesterday. Paul Anthony Jones, of St George, Kinmel Bay, near Abergele, admitted possessing a class C drug and cultivating cannabis when he appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court. Judge John Rogers QC sentenced Jones to six months in prison, suspended for two years. In addition, Jones must carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work and pay costs of £200. The court heard police officers found 42 plants in various stages of growth in his cellar, estimated to have a street value of £930. He told officers he planned to grow exotic plants and sell them locally but had started growing cannabis instead. Jones said he was a heavy user of cannabis but had no intention of selling the drugs.
