UK: Cannabis Couple are Spared Jail
Graham Broach Plymouth Herald
Thursday 22 Nov 2007 A couple found with enough cannabis at their home to make 2,000 joints have avoided a prison term. When police raided the West Park home of Andrew Trim and Theresa Farley in January, they found 22.86g of amphetamine powder worth £100, 389g of cannabis resin worth £1,100 and £200 in cash. Paul Frost, prosecuting at Plymouth Crown Court, said messages found on Trim's mobile phone proved he had been involved in drug-dealing. A police expert estimated there was enough cannabis resin to make 2,000 cigarettes, he said. Trim, aged 40 and of Shaldon Crescent, pleaded guilty to possessing a Class C drug, cannabis, with intent to supply, and to possessing a Class B drug, amphetamine. Farley, also 40 and of the same address, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class C drug, cannabis. Ali Rafati, for Trim, said he had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. He had debts and no money apart from what was found in the search. Emma Birt, for Farley, said she had also pleaded guilty from the outset, but had been shocked to discover her partner was dealing drugs, and had "sent him away" after a long relationship, though they were now reconciled. Judge Ian Leeming told Trim: "Your offending was an aberration under pressure of circumstances, to some extent. "Your intent was to supply a small circle of friends." He sentenced Trim to four months' jail suspended for one year and ordered him to perform 120 hours of unpaid work. Judge Leeming gave Farley a conditional discharge for one year. He also ordered the £200 to be confiscated and the drugs discovered to be seized and destroyed. http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/
