Cyprus: 50,000 Cypriots have used cannabis

It's estimated that 50,000 Cypriots have used cannabis at least once,
with most doing so whilst in the army, according to latest figures
released by the Drug Documentation and Information Centre.

The statistics were announced by Justice Minister Sophocles Sophocleous
this morning.

According to the report 12.5% of national guardsmen either smoke or have
smoked cannabis at least once.

3.3% of high school students have experimented with illegal substances.

Sophocles Sophocleous said that from the year 2000 to date, Cyprus has
had 64 drug related deaths, with 16 of them this year alone.
