UK: Cancer sufferer took cannabis to ease pain
Ayrshire Post
Wednesday 19 Dec 2007 A CANCER sufferer caught with a stash of cannabis has been let off the hook. James Clark admitted being in possession of the drug at his Ayr home in August this year. But his lawyer, Tony Currie, told Ayr Sheriff Court last month that his client used the class C drug to alleviate the pain caused by the killer disease. This week, Sheriff John Montgomery admonished the 34-year-old on the charges but said: “This is a highly unusual case, I want to stress that.” However, Mr Clark’s brother Jonathan faced similar charges and was not dealt with so leniently. Jonathan Clark was caught with around £400 of the drug at the same time as his brother at their Paterson Street house. Ordering the 30-year-old to pay a £200 fine, Sheriff Montgomery said: “You don’t have the same excuse as your brother.” http://icayrshire.icnetwork.co.uk/
