UK: Big Drug Haul After tip-Off From ByStander
Carl Eve Plymouth Herald
Wednesday 16 Jan 2008 Suspected illegal drugs worth almost £1million have been seized by police after a tip-off from a member of the public. Senior investigators say they received a call from a shopper at around noon yesterday who reported seeing the drivers of two cars 'acting suspiciously' in Endsleigh Garden Centre, on the A38 near Ivybridge. Officers from Devon and Cornwall Constabulary's road crime unit responded, arresting two men, aged 34 and 48, and seizing two vehicles. A search of the cars found around 100 kilos of what is believed to be base amphetamine, with an estimated street value of around £900,000. The drugs, in the form of a white powder, were later sent to a laboratory to determine their purity. Acting on information following the arrests officers then raided a property in Grove Park, Torpoint, where they say a hydroponic cannabis factory was found in a garage. Around 25 mature cannabis plants, plus a dozen smaller plants - estimated to be worth around £10,000 - were seized at the location and a 28-year-old woman arrested. Lead investigator Det Insp Jim Colwell said afterwards: "This is far and away the largest seizure of suspected class B drugs in the Plymouth area. "Three people have been arrested on suspicion of possession of class B and class C drugs with intent to supply." All three were later taken to Charles Cross police station where they are being questioned by detectives. The seizure was not in any way connected with Endsleigh Garden Centre. http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/
