UK: I grew cannabis to help me get off hard drugs
Lisa Jones South Wales Echo
Thursday 07 Feb 2008 A CLASS A drug addict claimed he grew cannabis to use as a buffer to come off “hard” drugs. Tony Elgar James Lewis, 29, had 13 cannabis plants growing in the bedroom of his home when police searched on December 3. Cardiff Magistrates’ Court heard they also found a generator and heating lamps. Prosecutor Sarah Asprey said: “He bought the seeds and grew them for himself, for his own personal use.” The court heard Lewis had a conviction in 2006 for supplying crack cocaine and was subject of a community order. Phillip Slough, defending, said: “This is not a sophisticated, hydroponics set-up. “The reason he was growing cannabis was a crutch while he was coming off class A drugs.” Lewis, of Corporation Road, Grangetown, Cardiff, admitted cultivating cannabis. He was given a 12-month community order and told to pay £65 court costs. http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/
