UK: Police sniff out cannabis addict
Andrew Napier ThisIsHampshire
Monday 25 Feb 2008 A WINCHESTER cannabis addict is starting a jail sentence after falling victim to the long nose of the law. Gerald Kimber, 51, was discovered by police smoking herbal cannabis in his home in Stanmore, the city crown court heard. They had been called to another property at Queens Mead, Stanmore, but smelled the distinctive aroma of cannabis as they passed his flat. Inside, they found about an ounce and a half of the drug with a street value of about £200. Kimber, unemployed, admitted possessing the class C drug. Judge John Dixon said he had to jail Kimber to ensure people realised they had to behave if given suspended sentences. Mary Aspinall-Miles, mitigating, said Kimber smoked cannabis to combat pain from his damaged knee which prevents him from working. Judge John Dixon imposed seven days in jail for possessing cannabis and six weeks for the breach. http://www.thisishampshire.net/news/hampshirenews/display.var.2069009.0.police_sniff_out_cannabis_addict.php
