UK: Money launderer to lose £389,000

BBC Online

Thursday 06 Mar 2008

A woman from Essex convicted of money laundering is set to lose assets with an estimated net value of £389,000.

The Assets Recovery Agency has been granted a High Court property freezing order over assets held by Phu Ha Bui of Ipswich Road, Colchester.

The case was brought to the agency and the High Court by Suffolk Constabulary.

Bui was jailed in February 2007 for four years at Ipswich Crown Court for money laundering in connection with a cannabis production case.

Four convicted

In August 2006, officers found cash and equipment used for the production of cannabis at her home.

Police proved in court that Ms Bui's assets were derived from the proceeds of cannabis production and money laundering.

Items found at her home were identical to those discovered at three other properties searched in Ipswich at the same time.

A small quantity of herbal cannabis was also found within the kitchen cupboard.

Four individuals were arrested and charged with conspiracy to produce a Class C drug and were subsequently convicted.

Two of the individuals were related to Bui.
