CUMBRIAN General Election candidates wanting cannabis legalised fear their campaign could go to pot unless they get more money. The three candidates have warned that unless supporters dig deep to fund their campaign they may have to drop out. The Legalise Cannabis Alliance says it needs grass- roots supporters to make donations to keep the issue burning. Carlisle's prospective parliamentary candidate for the alliance, Colin Paisley, said: "We have raised about £1,000 through benefits and collecting donations at the Howard marks gig and the Chumbawamba concert, but no- one is lining up to offer us £5 million. "We need to pay a £500 deposit for each seat and pay for the printing of leaflets and posters." PROFESSIONAL Treasurer and Penrith and the Border candidate Mark Gibson, husband of Lezley, who was cleared after using cannabis to ease her multiple sclerosis, said: "We held a benefit at the weekend and I was surprised by the number of people who paid for tickets but didn't turn up. A lot of professional people support what we do and the best way for them to show their support is to send a donation." John Peacock, of Silloth, is also expected to stand for the alliance in Workington.
