Dope candidate "has nothing to hide"

Peterborough Herald And Post

Wednesday 19 Apr 2000

---

HE has nothing to hide and city council candidate, Marcus Davies has stripped off to prove it.

The controversial candidate for the East Ward is standing for the Legalise Cannabis Alliance.

To raise awareness of his campaign the 31-year-old father of two has posted 2,500 leaflets picturing him naked across the East Ward.

"I came up with the statement first, I have nothing to hide. I haven't done anything like this before.

"But I have no shame now, not after I have been raided by the police," he said.

Mr Davies has been using cannabis to ease his epilepsy for more than ten years and says if the government legalises it there will be profound local benefits.

"It will help the police target their resources and people will come forward because the police will no longer he the enemy," be explained.

"There is obviously a problem on the East Ward. The same ways of tackling crime head-on aren't working and it's time for a change. Let's get it sorted out before it becomes a serious problem and people start getting killed."
