British doctors start to see sense

LCA

LCA Press Release

Wednesday 01 Nov 2000

---

The Legalise Cannabis Alliance, a political party formed in 1999, welcome the news that UK doctors are beginning to accept the viability of cannabis as a medicine to be used in the treatment of a number of diseases and
ailments.

Spokesman Alun Buffry said: "We see no reason whatsoever why a person should be punished for consuming the plant for any reason, provided they do not harm anybody.

"We find the prosecution of people who suffer from serious and painful ailments such as Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Injury, Epilepsy, the pain, nausea and wasting syndrome associated with AIDS and chemotherapy treatment, who use cannabis to ease their suffering, to be particularly inhumane and despicable.

"We look forward to the day when it becomes accepted by the medical profession and politicians that cannabis can be of benefit to a large proportion of the population for the prevention of stress and the development of problems such as glaucoma.

"All claims that cannabis has been banned because it is dangerous or addictive have been dismissed by the medico-scientific evidence from official studies on cannabis smokers.

"There is no reason to keep cannabis illegal."

Note for Editors:
