Hello All

Well the Romsey by-election is over, the electorate has had their say and I'm
haven't become Romsey's MP. But what a journey. Last night was an amazing
experience in so many ways. The whole evening had an electric buzz that will be
unforgettable. Though we were completely over-shadowed by the Lib-Dems victory,
our decision to stand has made a big impact and was well worth it.

We arrived at the count about 11.15, after a symbolic drink at the Dolphin in
Romsey. This pub was raided 3 years ago by 80 police officers (35 in riot gear)
and resulted in just 60 pounds worth of blow being seized. After arrival at the
hall, we wandered around for a bit trying to work out what we were supposed to
do, election virgins, but soon got into the swing of things. There was a delay
starting the count due to local papers being mixed up with the by-election
ones, which gave plenty of time to mingle and chat to the press and various
party workers.

It quickly became apparent that our grass roots campaign has been successful.
We had nothing but praise from all political spectrums for the approach we took
down here. The message that the law needs changing has certainly reached Romsey
and most people seem open to that possibility. Wake up Government, the people
are ahead of you! When the verification count finally began, it quickly became
apparent that the Lib-Dems were heading for victory and we were consigned to
the press wilderness. The LCA counters now had the chance to do their thing,
but instead of working, they cribbed the numbers from the other parties and
early signs pointed to us finishing a comfortable 5th.

When the count proper began, the excitement began to rise, despite extreme
tiredness by this time. Watching our little piles of ballot papers grow was a
thrilling experience, even though they were completely dwarfed by the big two.
We quickly realised we had got a decent number of votes, now we just had to
wait to find out how many. The result was finally declared at 5am, just as dawn
was breaking.

The whole evening was unforgettable, the adrenaline kept the party going till
noon. What a high, what a night, what a campaign, what an experience. Highly
recommended...........

And finally in the grand election tradition of claiming a successful vote,
whatever the outcome. We came within 1035 votes of beating the Government.

Anyway all for now, see you all in London later and a big, big thanks to
everyone on this list who has helped with this campaign, you know who you are.

Derrick
