Cannabis March & Rally London -- Great Plant - Crazy Law
Cannabis Coalition
Thursday 06 Sep 2001 Re: Cannabis March & Rally - LONDON SATURDAY 29th SEPT 2001 Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested great plant - crazy law: help end cannabis prohibition - 100% Dear friends, the Cannabis March & Rally in London on Sat Sept 29th is now confirmed, insured and organised (although there is plenty to do in the next couple of weeks if you want to help). The meeting point at Speakers Corner (12 noon), the march route through central London and the Cannabis Rally at Trafalgar Square, London on Sat 29th Sept have now been agreed with all concerned parties. Some important speakers have been confirmed (see below) and publicity has been going out nationwide. Please invite anyone you think might be interested. Steward volunteers are urgently required (see below). Thank you for any support you can give. Updates at http://www.cannabiscoalition.org MEET @ 12 noon: Speakers Corner, Hyde Park, London. (Marble Arch Tube). Departs 2.00pm via Park Lane & Piccadilly to Cannabis Rally at Trafalgar Square including speakers. Bring humour, banners and drums. A peaceful remonstration & celebration. Everyone counts. Everyone invited. ............ PROGRAMME for the day: Starting 12 noon at speakers corner with speakers and other special attractions including 'Free Cannabis in the Park' (5th consecutive year). March with musical float (tbc) leaves at 2.00 pm to Cannabis Rally at Trafalgar Sq with speakers plus communal celebration. Note: There is no chance of an entertainments license for either Hyde Park or Trafalgar Sq this year (maybe next) but personal musical instruments; drums, violins, welsh harps, trumpets etc are most welcome. Properganja "GrassRoots' After Party: 8pm - 6am: a Multi Media Cannabis Cultural Grassroots Benefit Event (venue tbc); properganja line up + speakers, stalls, films, poetry, art and food. ............ SPEAKERS @ Trafalgar Sq: 100% confirmed: Paul Flynn MP (labour), Howard Marks (ex smuggler), Francis Wilkinson, (ex-Chief Constable, Gwent Police), Caroline Coon (artist/founder Release), Mike Goodman (Director, Release), Shane Collins (Green Party), Alun Buffry (Legalise Cannabis Alliance) and more tba. Speakers at Trafalgar Square will: reflect the widespread support throughout society in Britain; represent all sections of the cannabis movement; include support and advice from our friends worldwide. ............ AIMS: The recent progress towards defacto decriminalisation in parts of Britain is to be welcomed but is clearly not the full solution. Only a complete, 100% lifting of cannabis prohibition allowing the growing, selling and social consumption of cannabis will do. Anything less is simply a half-way house which fails to protect the public. We need a 'New Deal for Cannabis': 1. The complete, total lifting of prohibition to allow freedom for the growing, licensed sale and social or medical use of cannabis in Britain. 2. Quality controls & Health & Safety Regulations as with any other product to protect consumers. 3. Distribution through licensed premises and non-profit cannabis buyers co-operatives & clubs. 4. An immediate release of all cannabis prisoners and clearing of all cannabis criminal records. REMEMBER: In the 1970's everyone thought that the prohibition of cannabis would be ended in just a couple more years .... STRATEGY SEPT 29th 2001: To unite and thus strengthen the voice of all those who advocate an end to the prohibition of cannabis (100%), by organising an peaceful and non-confrontational event that reflects the wide support for a change in the law that exists in all sections of society in Britain. ............ PROPERGANJA SONG SEARCH: offering musicians and artists the chance to help end cannabis prohibition worldwide, be in the charts and on a definitive album/cd collection of thc inspired tracks. Organised by the cannabis coalition, the 'search' is looking for three musical categories; song, dance, and 'jingle'. The final category is 'art' - for the best artworks, 'pot pop video' treatment, animations etc to go with the single & CD release. The coalition hopes for a 'properganja music' coup by getting the resulting single into the charts (not that difficult) and inspiring the creation of a brilliant album. "It is well known that many creative people, especially musicians, use cannabis so we are hoping for some very high thc quality music." The plot is to release a single and an album collection featuring the best entries - but it is emphasised this is not a competition. "This project is a search and hopefully a catalyst for inspiration - in other words it should work like good quality cannabis". Both single & album will be released in the week running up to the Global Cannabis Action on Sat May 4th 2002 with the aim of promoting the event and raising much required funds. Artists will also be invited to perform at the Cannabis Festivals planned for that date in London, Birmingham and Manchester. Properganja Song Search deadline: 31st Jan 2002 (but get in touch now). All entries should be sent by mail to: properganja song search, PO Box 2243, London W1A 1YF. (0207 837 2720). properganja@schmoo.co.uk. URGENT: Sending money can be a vital form of political direct action. If you support the strategy of well organised, peaceful, enjoyable, and politically effective cannabis marches and festivals in Britain as part of a national and international cannabis coalition in over 150 cities worldwide - please (but only if you can afford it) contribute to the cannabis coalition continuation fund. With debts still being paid off from the June 16th Festival in Brixton, plus the added expenses of coordinating the March & Rally on Sep 29 (full costs on website) the state of the coalition's finances is curtailing the publicity and coordinating work we can do. For example: we have a great mailing list - but can hardly ever afford to send out to 2000+ people. We have phone bills. If everyone who reads this message sent just £5 each to the coalition our combined capacity to continue cooperative resistance to the cannabis prohibition would be greatly improved. We think the cannabis marches and festivals, which have been organised as a coalition effort on half a shoe string since 1999 have been fairly (amazingly) effective so far - but we could do 10 times better with just 1 times more funding than we have now. Please make cheques payable to 'ICC' or 'cannabis coalition', PO Box 2243, London, W1A 1YF, UK. Tel: 0207 837 2720. (Acc No: 0251 3200. Sort: 16 - 58 -10). Thanks. viva ganja ............
