Alun Buffry at the Oxford Union debate (16th Oct) spoke in support of the motion: "This House would legalise cannabis", alongside Peter Lilley MP, Jon Owen Jones MP and Professor of Pharmacology Leslie Iversen. The motion was won by 193 - 125. LCA BACKGROUND; The LCA is contesting the forthcoming by-election in Ipswich. The Legalise Cannabis Alliance was first registered as a political party in 1999. The LCA fielded candidates in the Kensington and Chelsea, and Romsey by-elections and 13 in the 2001 General Election. There have been 15 local election seats contested. See web site for results http://www.lca-uk.org The LCA does not run a membership, preferring to attract support through endorsement of Principles, Aims and Proposals from across the political spectrum. This avoids conflict between supporters and their parties. There are 1170 endorsees to date - Endorsements can be made on line at http://www.lca-uk.org or send stamped address envelope for form to PO BOX 198. Norwich. NR2 2DH. The LCA is far from being a "single issue" party. LCA policies include cannabis related issue such as Human Rights, Law and Order, Drugs and Crime, Health, The Environment, Fuel, Pollution, Education, Agriculture, Trade and Employment. But our candidates may also hold and express views on other matters during their campaign, although clearly every vote cast will be in support of the legalisation of cannabis. The Legalise Cannabis Alliance Manifesto [ISBN: 0-9653693-1-4] is available from PO BOX 198. Norwich. NR2 2DH.
