Don Barnard

LCA Press Release

Tuesday 30 Oct 2001

---

During his show at Ipswich Corn Exchange on October 31 Howard Marks [Mr
Nice] will officially announced that local man John Ramirez [**see Candidate
background editors notes**] has been selected as 'The Legalise Cannabis
Alliance' Candidate to contest the forthcoming Ipswich By-Election.

TV and Press photo call with Howard and John are available on the night.

Before the show John Ramirez said:

"I am excited about the prospect of representing the Legalise Cannabis
Alliance in the forthcoming by-election and believe it important the someone
stands up and offers the opportunity to those in the community to express
their own belief and support in the cannabis debate. This , I believe, is
the first time that cannabis users in Ipswich will be able to express their
own sympathies in a democratic context, without the concern of being
personally condemned for the way in which they choose to live their private
lives."

LCA press Officer Don Barnard said;

"I look forward to hearing the other candidates personal views on the
issues - Starting with: Have they ever used cannabis? do they know someone
who smokes cannabis? And, Why do we need to punish people [especially the
sick] who use cannabis?

"Standing for parliament cost money John has raised his 500 deposit. But
still has to raise at least 500 printing and other election costs, any
offers of help [in anyway] would be helpful - supporter should in contact.

LCA BACKGROUND

The Legalise Cannabis Alliance was first registered as a political party in
1999.

The LCA does not run a membership, preferring to attract support through
endorsement of Principles, Aims and Proposals from across the political
spectrum. This avoids conflict between supporters and their parties. There
are 1170 endorsees to date - Endorsements can be made on line at
http://www.lca-uk.org or send stamped address envelope for form to PO BOX
198. Norwich. NR2 2DH.

The LCA is far from being a "single issue" party. LCA policies include
cannabis related issue such as Human Rights, Law and Order, Drugs and Crime,
Health, The Environment, Fuel, Pollution, Education, Agriculture, Trade and
Employment. But our candidates may also hold and express views on other
matters during their campaign, although clearly every vote cast will be in
support of the legalisation of cannabis.
