120 prospective candidates for the LCA
Don Barnard Press Release
Friday 29 Nov 2002 Revamped: Legalise Cannabis Alliance plan 120 prospective candidates in 2004 election Over the past 9 months the Legalise Cannabis Alliance Executive Committee aside from being a side show in the media have been in consultation with endorsees various Cannabis [aka Hemp] related organisation on a variety of ways we could/should work together to capitalise on our past successes. Our conclusion "The Way Forward" can be found at: http://www.lca-uk.org/execstatement.php The LCA's intends to contest enough seats at the next General Election [2004] to entitle us to a Party Political Broadcast. So, we need to find at least 120 prospective candidates. LCA PPC to date [Eds, notes 1] To achieve this target we also need raise 1,200 [minimum] each for deposits and fliers = A total of 144,000 Don Barnard [LCA Press Officer] Said: "Sounds like a lot of money, but that's only 10 per week per candidate, plus we already have several projects up and running [see fund raising "The way forward http://www.lca-uk.org/execstatement.php] "We now intend to get to the section of society that the campaign is all about, the cannabis user and the environmentalists ... it's so sad that so many environmentalists are unaware of the positive use for cannabis to improve their quality of life. This task falls to local people supporting the candidates, their nominees, their agents and staff to raised funds on a local level ... small amounts donated regularly from a lot of people say ten people on a building site or a small group of friends donating a pound a week at http://www.lca-uk.org/donations.html Or standing orders through their bank We also have ways of showing support that costs nothing [See Eds. note 2] Mr Barnard said: "In a nutshell, candidacy will be based upon local people and traders - if anyone wants a candidate in their area, it is up to them, to raise funds.... Freeing the Executive to administer to them and the party in the background and to help fulfil the Aims of the LCA. The Legalise Cannabis Alliance Manifesto now available for download at http://www.webbooks.org/ Practically every sitting MP has been sent a copy of this document - sadly a handful were returned with no identification. The LCA is convinced when the voter is made aware of how many of today's problems have been caused by prohibition, and how many industrial millionaires have been made at the cost of freedom, health and the environment many will vote for the LCA. Mr Barnard said: "The important thing is after the election the public and their elected MP's will be better informed to enable society to come to a consensus on how best we deal with cannabis."
