New Faces Fight For The Vote

Hull Daily Mail

Wednesday 02 Apr 2003

---

A Clutch of Independents, four Greens, a trio of BNP candidates, an
anti-war campaigner and the man behind plans for Hull's first cannabis
cafe all feature in the election line-up. The BNP's first challenge in
Hull has already made the headlines, although where its support might
come from is something of an unknown factor.

Equally, Independent candidates could take votes from the established
parties while Independent councillors Nadene Burton and Clare Page will
be aiming to retain their seats.

Geoff Collier, spokesman for the Hull Stop The War campaign, is
contesting the Avenue ward on an anti-war ticket.

And Carl Wagner might win some support among the student population of
Newland ward as the city's only Legalise Cannabis Alliance candidate.

He cut his political teeth in the last General Election, standing in the
Hull North constituency against Labour's Kevin McNamara.

Elsewhere, the Greens have candidates in University, Longhill, Avenue
and Myton.
