Cannabis Cafe Candidate Selected for Brent East By-Election

Don Barnard

Press Release

Saturday 19 Jul 2003

---

The Legalise Cannabis Alliance (LCA) have selected Chris Baldwin, 52, one
of the pioneers of the UK Cannabis Cafe movement as our prospective
candidate for the vacant parliamentary seat of Brent East,

Chris Baldwin, 52, who previously stood for the LCA at the General Election
in 1997 and gained 2.1% of the vote in Worthing East and Shoreham, was
selected from a short list of five.

He also opened two of the UK's pioneering cannabis cafes, both in Worthing
East Sussex... The first, The Quantum Leaf, was closed by the landlord (not
the police) and Chris is presently awaiting trials connected with his
second cafe, Buddies.

Chris has previously lived within the Brent East constituency and is well
acquainted with the area.

Chris was also one of a group of representatives of the LCA to travel to
Orkney to lend support to cannabis campaigning MS sufferer Biz Ivol at her
trial for the production and distribution of cannabis chocolate to the
sick. Her trial was dropped half way through after her doctor claimed she
was no longer fit to attend, against the wishes of Biz herself.

The Legalise Cannabis Alliance was first registered as a political party in
1999.

The LCA is far from being a "single issue" party. LCA policies include
cannabis related issue such as Human Rights, Law and Order, Drugs and
Crime, Health, The Environment, Fuel, Pollution, Education, Agriculture,
Trade and Employment. Candidates may also hold and express views on other
matters during their campaign, although clearly every vote cast will be in
support of the legalisation of cannabis.
