Former Mayor Colin joins his fifth party
The News and Star, Carlisle
Tuesday 30 Dec 2003 FORMER Carlisle mayor and pro-cannabis campaigner Colin Paisley has joined his FIFTH political party. Mr Paisley, 66, will mastermind the Greens' European election campaign in Cumbria next year and stand in St Aidan's ward in the Carlisle City Council elections in June. Originally a Communist, Mr Paisley moved to Labour, then the Liberals and the Liberal Democrats, and has also stood twice for the non-party Legalise Cannabis Alliance. The former first citizen said: I know people will say here he goes again joining another party. But I got involved in the Stop the War coalition and came across Green Party people there. I decided that, at my age, I ought to start caring about the environment. Although I've never been a member of Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth or Cumbrians Opposed to a Radioactive Environment, I have always supported them. I've gone through the Greensmanifesto and I don't see anything in it that's different from the Labour Party I joined in the Eighties. Mr Paisley, of Garden Street, Carlisle, is a self-confessed reformed heroin addict and alcoholic.
