Biofuels are the future
Hugh Robertson Letters, Dundee Courier
Monday 06 Sep 2004 Sir, Donald Macleod's letter (August 27) contending that petrol prices should be coming down due to extra tax revenue from North Sea oil would only be correct if we exported more than we im- ported - we don't. The fact is the world is fast running out of petrochemicals to exploit and prices will continue to climb until we return to using agriculture as our source. Biofuels are the future for fuel, and are where farmers should be looking as many face yet another year of appalling prices for grain. Forget windfarms polluting the landscape, just grow our fuel - hemp, willow, poplar and oilseed rape are amongst the best, but almost any plant material can be used along with animal slurry and some industrial waste. Hugh Robertson. Barrack Street, Perth.
