Charles Clarke Ignoring The Public View

Melissa Dawson

Letters, Evening News, Norwich

Tuesday 01 Feb 2005

---

I write to you on two matters. Firstly to congratulate the local council
for their opposition to the ID cards bill which sets out to further erode
our human rights.

Secondly, I would like to comment on the article "I have no respect for the
pro-cannabis argument" (Charles Clarke, Evening News January 25)

It seems to me that when Mr Clarke says he will not talk with another
political party because he has "no respect" for them this reflects more
upon Charles Clarke's personality than it does the pro-cannabis argument.

Mr Clarke recently replied to a letter I sent him expressing my concerns
about ID cards. In this reply he basically told me that my opposition to
ID cards did not matter and that they were brought in regardless of public
opinion.

On both the ID and legalise cannabis issues, Mr Clarke gives the impression
of not having the slightest interest in the views of those who he is
employed to represent.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind him that his job is to
serve the people and not (as he seems to think) to rule over us.

I would also like to publicly ask Charles Clarke if (as he has no respect
for the pro-cannabis argument) he also has no respect for Ian Gibson MP,
who openly supports the legalise cannabis movement, and no respect for the
1500 people who voted for the LCA in Norwich's last general election?
