Election announcement
Anglia Advertiser
Wednesday 06 Apr 2005 THE RACE for Number 10 got off to a flying start in Norwich this week as Prime Minister Tony Blair announced that the general election would be held on May 5. Norwich's two parliamentary seats will be put to the vote in less than four weeks time, and candidates in both Norwich South and Norwich North will be fighting hard for their parties. The seats are currently held by Home Secretary Charles Clarke and Dr Ian Gibson, who are both Labour party MPs. But they face competition from all the major political parties - as well as from other parties eager to highlight their causes. In the Norwich South race, Mr Clarke's seat will be hotly contested by Green party City Councillor Adrian Ramsay, who has high hopes for a win, and Conservative candidate Antony Little. Liberal Democrat candidate Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne will also be hoping to secure some votes, while standing for the UK Independence Party is Richard Coe. Don Barnard is representing the Legalise Cannabis Alliance. In Norwich North, Dr Ian Gibson will hoping to see off competition from Conservative candidate James Tumbridge, Liberal Democrat Robin Whitmore, Adrian Holmes for the Greens, and John Youles for UKIP. More information about the 2005 general election can be found on page three.
