Don Barnard Said:

BY any rational test the war on "some drugs" has been a costly social
disaster. Even more worrying, in the face of this political, economic and
social disaster is the refusal of the major political parties (when in
power). See letter from Charles Clarke dated 3 February 2005 "Ministers do
not think that a meeting would be helpful at this time." [2].

A vote for a single-issue party is not a wasted vote it's a vote against the
current system of big party politics.... and it offers a viable alternative
to mere abstention.

I believe a strong vote for the Legalise Cannabis Alliance would send a
clear message to next MP for Norwich South that we are fed up with our
elected officials and Ministers censoring discussion and debate on issues of
importance to us and our children.....

I look forward to hearing the Conservative and Labour candidates justify why
they should want to lock people up for growing or possessing an
environmental and health promoting plant.

3 February 2005

Dear Mr Barnard

Thank you for your email of 17 December to the Home Secretary and copied to
Caroline Flint, about cannabis. Your email has been passed to the Home
Office Drug Legislation and Enforcement Unit and I have been asked to reply.

My reply of 5 January to your email of 4 December to Caroline Flint reflects
the Home Secretary's approach to the use of drugs. Mr Clarke has made clear
his opposition to the legalisation of drugs. When the Drugs Bill received
its second reading on 18 January, he said: "I do not believe that
decriminalising drug abuse is the right approach. Indeed, it is the exact
opposite of the right approach." And, later (at column 697), "I am wholly
against, without qualification, legalising drugs. If I was unclear in what I
said, I reiterate it clearly from the Dispatch Box."

Ministers do not think that a meeting would be helpful at this time.

Yours sincerely,

RICHARD MULLINS
