Newham Recorder Wednesday 09 Apr 2008 Date: April 9 2008 Cannabis factory goes up in smoke A pungent smell filled the air in Forest Gate last week as a cannabis factory went up in smoke. From the front the unoccupied two-storey property in Hesketh Road looks like a normal Victorian terrace house, but it is in fact a derelict warehouse. As firefighters wearing breathing gear climbed a ladder to reach the top floor, they found hundreds of cannabis plants growing under lamps. Bagged-up cannabis and other equipment used for producing the drug was also found. About half of each floor was taken up for cultivation. Firefighters said it was not the fire but the water sprayed into the building that destroyed the plants. Else Kvist's story in full in this week's Recorder
