US: Judge rejects Franklin County man's marijuana as part of religion argument Heather Stauffer The Sentinel Wednesday 16 Apr 2008 Cumberland County President Judge Edgar Bayley rejected the motion this afternoon in Cumberland County court. “Our position is, if you’re part of that particular religion, you are able to use it for personal use,” said Henry's attorney, George N. Marros. Henry, a 48-year-old resident of Fannettburg, Franklin County, admitted in court today that he did not join the church until two months after his arrest on drug charges. Court papers say state police at Carlisle arrested Henry, in Hopewell Township on Oct. 10, 2007, and shortly thereafter filed charges, including possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver. Henry was subsequently released from Cumberland County Prison on $100,000 bail. Police also seized more than $1,800 in cash from Henry. Henry said he is a member of The Hawaii Cannabis Ministry. According to the ministry’s Web site at www.thc-ministry.org, “the sacramental use of Cannabis is the cornerstone of the THC Ministry.” It states founder Roger Christie’s opinion is that “Cannabis is the original sacrament of Hebrew, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Shinto, Buddhist, Rasta and more,” and says, “Cannabis helps us reach deep into our spiritual awareness, and with that we can find the truth in all things.” After the hearing, Marros said he thought Henry had learned of the ministry from a friend or through the Internet.
