UK: Police raid drives home tough message
Sunderland Echo Saturday 26 Apr 2008 Ten officers and four community support officers were involved in Operation Greatford, which saw a home in Porter Terrace, Murton, targeted just 24 hours after the £100,000 haul from Deneside in Seaham. A finger-tip search, which included a sweep by a sniffer dog, was carried out at the rented semi-detached home. A small amount of cannabis was recovered from the property. The raid came after intelligence was passed on through various sources, with police pledging to continue their campaign to drive illegal substances out of East Durham. Inspector Gary Webb, of Seaham's community policing team, said: "This is an appeal to say if people are concerned about any form of drug misuse in the Murton and Seaham area, contact the police. "That can be anonymously or through Crimestoppers, any way they wish. "We are interested in people's information, so that can be from any suspicious activity involving people coming and going from premises, suspicious activity around parked vehicles to exchanges of small packages." People living near the raided house looked on as police vehicles pulled up at 3pm and officers entered the house. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/Police-raid-drives-home-tough.4023714.jp
