Fifty-three per cent of drivers killed on Victorian roads last year
showed the presence of alcohol or other drugs, including marijuana. The
presence of drugs other than alcohol - mainly cannabis - has been
rising dramatically in recent years, according to Victoria's
parliamentary road safety committee chairman, John Richardson. He said
38 per cent of drivers killed last year showed a presence of drugs
other than alcohol, compared with 20 per cent in 1993. Mr Richardson
was quoting studies by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.
