UK: Cannabis Used as Sleep Aid

Scarborough Today

Friday 30 May 2008

A woman has been given a conditional discharge by magistrates after police found a small amount of cannabis in her home.

Emma Davis, 27, of Dunn Grove, Eastfield, “occasionally” used the drug as a sleeping aid, her solicitor Franklyn Garvey said.

Scarborough Magistrates’ Court heard police raided Davis’s home on Christmas Eve last year in relation to stolen property, but instead found around £10 worth of cannabis in a bedroom.

Mr Garvey said: “The cannabis was entirely for her own use. She used to be a fairly regular user but now is an occasional user.”

Davis, a single parent, had no other convictions for drugs. She was given a six-month conditional discharge and must pay £43 court costs. Magistrates also made an order for the forfeiture and destruction of cannabis.
