Scottish force seizes £25,000 of cannabis

NORTHERN Constabulary seized cannabis worth £25,000, as well as drugs believed to be ecstasy and cocaine, following an operation which took place across the Highlands and islands, they confirmed last night.

Officers also discovered amphetamines, LSD and what they described as a “large quantity of cash.”

The searches took place on Thursday night in Lewis, Inverness and Kyleakin and resulted in six people being charged.

A further two people are being investigated.

Detective Inspector Iain Smith, head of the drug squad at Northern Constabulary, said: “These seizures reflect the force's commitment to targeting those involved in the supply of controlled drugs throughout the force area in an intelligence led way.

“However, these seizures would not be possible without also the support and assistance of local communities.”

Northern Constabulary head of operations Chief Superintendent Bruce Duncan said: “These latest seizures demonstrate some excellent investigative police work.

“Those involved in drug dealing should be aware that we will continue to proactively target those involved in the supply of controlled drugs, with the aim of removing drug dealing from the Highlands and islands.”
