Researchers at Debrecen University have recently discovered that the sebaceous, or "tallow" gland found on human's skin produces substances akin to the cannabis derivatives which are the active ingredients in marijuana, reports index.hu. According to their results, endogen cannabinoids play a critical role in the health of our skin.

The finding opens the way to further research, and the researchers say that it is likely that in the future, cannabis derivatives will be available in a creamy form to treat skin problems such as acne, dry skin, itching, or, since these chemicals induce cell death in human tallow gland cells, even skin tumors. As the substances influence the functioning of hair follicles, they may also prove useful in the treatment of hair growth problems.

The future research includes revealing how these mechanisms work. They also want to begin the production of creams based on their findings.
