Sri Lanka: Government Considering Growing 4 Tonnes of Marijuana

Sri Lanka: A plan to grow 4 tonnes of marijuana for the purpose of stocking Ayurvedic medical practitioners has been put forward by the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine.

Fresh marijuana is used in traditional Ayurveda herbal medicine. Currently plants seized in police raids is made available but Ayurveda practitioners say what they have currently is dried out and not as effective.

"We are interested in getting some approval to grow some cannabis with government sponsorship, but there must be controls. It is under study," said secretary at the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine Asoka Malimage.
