Cannabis Cards for Labour and Redditch Protest
Legalise Cannabis Alliance Thursday 16 Oct 2008 The Legalise Cannabis Alliance produced a postcard for supporters of cannabis legalisation to send to the Labour Party (see links below). We did this before the announcement was made that cannabis was to be upgraded to class B. We received a letter from the Labour party in November, noting our campaign as they had received "many" postcards from the public. Despite thousands of postcards being handed out, of which enough landed on the Labour Parties doorstep before the decision to reclassify cannabis for them to send us a response, they went against public demand and the recommendations of their own council on drugs, the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD). We have heard the press has been advised not to print any pro-cannabis stories Cannabis users in the UK feel victimised for their choice on recreational drug, and it must be said, unless their is a victim of crime there is no crime, except apparently in the case of cannabis. The press, however, often report stories about cannabis "factories" but never seem to get a good story about the dangerous drugs saturating the streets, such as heroin and crack, Why is this the case? Is it not more dangerous and of greater concern that we have 15-year-olds robbing their family to feed a crack habit than a grandma eating a cannabis-laced dinner and feeling real medical benefit? We know cannabis is not a gateway drug; we know that cannabis is of little harm if its not smoked with tobacco; we know there is dangerous adulterated cannabis on the streets and we know children of any age can buy it for just £10. There is no control regardless of the class it's put into. The Dutch system of coffeeshops and tolerated possession of small amount, works: their drug use for teenagers and adults is significantly lower than that of the UK. We ask you Editor of this British Paper, to have the guts to print the postcards we have produced and allow the public to have their say, a referendum so to speak run by all the UK papers, on the same day. If you feel you can prove the Government does not rule how you run your newspaper, we invite you to publish the postcards in your paper on the 17th October, the day before many will descend on Home Secretary Jacqui Smiths constituency, Redditch to demand she listens to the UKs cannabis users. The Redditch protest on October 18th is organised by Pinky and the Protest London Group Perhaps you can publicize this event, as you never seem to manage to cover any of the cannabis protests in the UK? Put your power behind your readers.
