Cannabis-Smoking in Public Liable to Fine in Rotterdam
NIS News Friday 17 Oct 2008 Smoking a joint on the street is already forbidden in the district, but there has not been any penalty for infringements until now. From 1 November, action will be taken. Those caught will be fined 50 euros, though minors will only be fined 25 euros, according to the police. The police have announced that everyone who smokes dope will be fined. According to a spokesman for the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) however, there must be a question of nuisance before officers can write a ticket. Local authorities can decide for themselves whether or not to permit the use of cannabis on the street. A ban only applies in a few districts. The special road-signs that announce the ban have been for sale. When they were first introduced a few years ago, they were stolen from most places the next day as collector's items. http://www.nisnews.nl/public/171008_2.htm
