UK Cannabis group sends message to government - video

Canna Zine

Sunday 19 Oct 2008

The Legalise Cannabis Alliance of the United Kingdom has released a video which shows clearly one of the major problems cannabis prohibition brings as a by-product of its own existence.

The message the video passes is clear and concise. Whilst cannabis remains a prohibited substance it can never truly be called a "controlled drug".

For as long as cannabis remains in the hands of organised criminals its impossible to regulate the supply to minors.

But if government were to take responsibility for what is a hugely important social issue, by regulating the supply of cannabis in the same vein as they do tobacco and alcohol

licensing laws would actually work to protect children, by making it more difficult for them to buy the class C drug, and by allowing responsible adults to supply themselves, the illicit market in cannabis could start being dismantled almost over-night.

It appears government is so dead set in stopping people getting 'stoned', (even though some of them have done it without ill-effect for 40+ years), that its ignoring the problems of exposing the next generation to drugs and drug culture.

Realistically, its not even possible to control the drugs trade in a secure environment like a prison so whats the chances of this government, or the next, making a blind bit of difference out in the cold open space of society?

If you listen to former senior drugs advisor to government Julian Critchley, or Chief Constable Richard Brunstrum, or former drugs tsar Keith Hellawell, there's absolutely no chance, and every day wasted exposes more of our youngsters to drugs.

Help stop the reclassification of cannabis, and force dialogue for a fair and just, science based national drugs policy.
