UK: Cannabis Policing - A taste of things to come?
Cannabis Lobby Friday 05 Dec 2008 To illustrate this point, police in Bristol are under fire today, after it was announced they recently mounted an expensive anti-cannabis operation in the city, including using the POlice helicopter for long periods of time, only to find out the "tell-tale smell" the Police ask members of the public to keep a "nose out" for, was being created not by an organised oriental drugs factory, but by a common-or-garden moss plant. Ivor Wiltshire, 77, and his wife Margaret, 79, have been growing moss phlox or phlox subulata, since they bought it from a garden centre arond four years previously, when it cost just two pounds. The couple planted it in the front and back garden of their home as according to Mr Wiltshire, "Its like a carpet of green which suddenly lights up in a flood of vibrant purple flowers. Its quite beautiful". Grandfather-of-three Ivor said: "We bought the plant four years ago and it multiplied so fast that it took over our front and back gardens - I was happy because it looked very nice. But little did the couple know, there was trouble on the horizon. A neighbour was subjected to a robbery by a masked gang who were thought to be looking for drugs, and it was around this time Mr Wiltshire started noticing the Police helicopter was spending a lot of time hovering above his house. Its now thought the Police were "scanning" Mr Wilstshires home using heat seeking equipment, at huge public expense. Not long afterwards, when the couple returned from a holiday in Madeira, they found the police had smashed down the their front door and searched their garden, garage, house and attic. Their ornate PVCu front door had been completely destroyed as the Police smashed their way into the couples home. The door had been bolted shut with a padlock and once they had gained entry to their house, they found paperwork from the police detailing what had happened. A spokesman for Avon and Somerset confirmed the raid had taken place and they had apologised but said the force could not comment further because the couple's complaint was being investigated. A spokesman for the Cannabis Lobby said, "What do you expect?" "The British government have laid out their stall and decreed loudly, cannabis is their public enemy No.1, and police are actively searching out properties or individuals who fit into what they think is a set 'pattern'. But as this case proves all too clearly, its unsafe to make suppositions and in this instance they have made it impossible for an elderly couple to continue to live in their family home." "The police have the British public in a high state of alert with their continuing witch-hunt on cannabis. They know they are losing ground on the anti-prohibition movement and to fight back they keep releasing more lies, keeping their anti-cannabis agenda at the forefront of British minds". In the meantime a group of experts in Holland, including members of dutch law enforcement, the judiciary and politicians, have concluded that cannabis prohibition should be dismantled forthwidth, as it has proven more damaging than the substance itself. As Mr and Mrs Wiltshire from Bristol, will no-doubt pay witness. By Bill Stone The Cannabis Lobby http://forum.cannabislobby.org
