Malaysia: Three get death for drug trafficking
Malaysian Star Friday 12 Jun 2009 P. Samugem, 32, S. Prakash, 36, and V. Kumaran, 36, were charged with trafficking 45.49kg of cannabis at Jalan Perwira 2, in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah at about 11pm on Nov 1, 2002. High Court Judge Datuk Azahar Mohamed ruled that the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against them. “Samugem and Prakash had negotiated the price of the cannabis with an undercover police personnel at the scene. “Kumaran was the driver of the car, in which three boxes of the drugs were found,” he said. Judge Azahar said the defence’s argument that they thought they were selling contraband cigarettes could not be accepted. The three men appeared calm as the sentence was read. Defence counsel Faris Zahid, who represented Samugem and Gobind Singh Deo, who appeared for the other two accused, said they would appeal against the decision. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/6/13/courts/4109955&sec=courts
