Re: 'Pot as much bad as tobacco: Study' (Daily News, Aug. 6)

The headline poses one interesting question: If marijuana is as dangerous as tobacco, why has no one ever died from using it?

It also raises other questions, like who funded this research? why is one legal and one not? and If it really is so dangerous, isn't that all the more reason to regulate it?

Neither marijuana nor the main psychoactive component of the plant, THC, has been shown to cause cancer.

In fact, recent science shows how cannabis actually fights cancer.

I noticed, however, that Amy Minsky and Canwest went to the trouble of actually asking for a quote from someone on the sensible side of the marijuana debate. Usually, this kind of tripe is regurgitated unedited to the public, so we thank and commend you for showing a higher level of journalistic integrity than most of your peers.
