Malaysia: Former Prison Warden Gets 10 Years' Jail, 13 Lashes For Drug
Bernama Monday 05 Oct 2009 Mohd Jefry Mat Kassim, 25, from Jeli, Kelantan, was sentenced to 10 years jail and 10 strokes of the rotan for possession of 23.89gm cannabis at a house in Jalan Aur, Sungai Buloh Prison complex, Gombak, at about 6.50pm on Oct 5, 2006. He was sentenced to three years jail and three strokes of the rotan on the second charge with possessing 12.06gm heroin and 6.50gm of monoacetylmorphines at the same place, time and date. However, judge Hasbi Hasan ordered Mohd Jefry to serve the jail sentences concurrently from the date of arrest on Oct 5, 2006. She granted a request by Mohd Jefry to be allowed to serve the jail sentence at the Pengkalan Chepa Prison in Kelantan. Earlier in mitigation, lawyer Adenan Ismail, who represented Mohd Jefry, said his client had never committed any offence while working at the Sungai Buloh Prison since 2004 and that his fiancee broke off their engagement after he was arrested for the offence.
