US: New Jersey Passes Medical Marijuana Bill, But no Pot for Stress
Chatterbox Tuesday 12 Jan 2010 The bill would allow doctors to prescribe medical marijuana to patients holding state-issued identification cards. The patients could then legally purchase medicinal pot from registered alternative treatment centers. The identification cards would be issued by the Department of Health and Senior Services. Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, one of the bill’s sponsors, told CNN that the bill would be one of the strictest in the nation. "I believe that this bill will be model legislation for states here on out that will look to (be) legalizing marijuana. We looked at the pitfalls of California and made a more restrictive bill," said Gusciora. The lawmaker pointed to the exclusion of stress and anxiety from the list of approved conditions. "I feel like every college student would qualify for stress and anxiety, and has qualified in California," added Gusciora. Once the bill is signed into law by the governor, it would take an additional six to nine months to take effect. http://chattahbox.com/us/2010/01/12/new-jersey-passes-medical-marijuana-bill-but-no-pot-for-stress/
