UK: Children caught with drugs

Children as young as 13 have been caught allegedly dealing drugs in the North East.
Figures released by Durham and Northumbria Police forces show 21 under-18s were arrested for selling drugs last year.

A total of 234 youngsters were caught allegedly dealing drugs ranging from cannabis to heroin, speed and methadone in the North in the past three years.

Figures have fallen sharply in Durham, which saw nine youngsters arrested for supply-of-drugs offences last year compared to 23 in 2009.

The youngest was a 14-year-old caught with cannabis. One 17-year-old had heroin.

Figures have gone up slightly in the Northumbria Police area, rising from nine in 2007 to 11 in 2008.

The youngest in the Northumbria force area was a 13-year-old
