Netherlands: Dutch Coffeeshops to go on Strike June 9th 2010

Dear Colleague,

Nol van Schaik - Cannabis OndernemerIt can't have slipped your attention that we as cannabusinesses have been suppressed for years by the politics of 4 failed J.P.Balkenende parliaments. BUT, now this, hopefully last parliament of J.P.B. has fallen, the danger is far from over !
On the contrary, if the next coalition exists of PVV (Geert Wilders), CDA (Christian Democratic Labor party) and VVD (Freedom and Democracy), with on the reserve banks CU (Christian Union), the pressure on the Dutch coffeeshops will only increase.

This combo (PVV,CDA,VVD) is not unthinkable, NONE! of these parties is positively minded about the Dutch coffeeshops. VVD blows with any wind to get into the coalition, so they follow the statements of the other big parties. We can sit back and relax and wait for even more coffeeshops to be closed, maybe yours and mine are next, or maybe all of us at once....

We could also show that we are not laying back and just let it happen, and get organised in action against the already far-stretching denunciation and the closing of more and more coffeeshops. I for one am completely sick of it, and will really get on the barricades for this ! Time for ACTION !

I'm sad to acknowledge this but our clients, described by the press as blowers, don't take the effort to go and vote. Because of this, many votes of which we may assume that they would go to Cannabis friendly parties are completely lost. There is but 1 way to make clear to our customers that it is time to VOTE NOW ! To prevent the closing of all coffeeshops within the next few years.

If we close our shops for 1 time on the Dutch National Parliament election day June 9th 2010, during the hours that the voting offices are open.
Maybe then our customers will feel an urge to go to the nearest voting booth and cast their vote on one of the cannabis friendly parties!

The message should be that this one day closure is only temporary, but also a horrifying view of a future without coffeeshops!

I for one am going on STRIKE!, on June 9th 2010 our shops will not open until the voting offices are closed.
And not only to stimulate our visitors, but also to stress the following Strike mission statements.
Meanwhile I already have some acknowledgement of some colleague coffeeshop-owners who decided to join the strike.

I think we should at the same time use the attention that a CoffeeShop STRIKE can generate to show our dislikes about the current form of the gedoogbeleid (acceptance policy).

Thus I ask you to consider joining the CoffeeShopSTRIKE !

CLOSED
FOR 1 DAY,
BEFORE A NEW PARLIAMENT
TAKES YOUR
LICENCE AWAY!

I have come up with a list of Strike goals based on my own experiences.
