UK: Barnoldswick cannabis dealer is spared jail
Pendle Today Monday 26 Apr 2010 Burnley Crown Court heard how James Wilson-Graham told police he had been supplying to friends to fund his own habit. He was said to have kicked his addiction, was about to start an apprenticeship at a leading local restaurant and was working hard towards qualifications. The defendant, of Cobden Street, Barnoldswick, who has never been in trouble before, admitted supplying cannabis and possessing the drug with intent to supply. He was given 36 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, with six months supervision and must pay £200 costs. Judge Beverly Lunt told him: "You are a drug dealer now and employers will look at your record and will see a drug dealer. There are no two ways round it." The judge said people who supplied cannabis, even to friends, had to go to jail, but added Wilson-Graham had taken very positive steps to put his life back on track and could be working and paying tax instead of being paid for by the tax payer in custody. Stephen Parker (prosecuting) told the court police went to speak to the driver of a car in a Colne park. There was a strong smell of cannabis from the vehicle. The car was searched and a small polythene bag was found on the floor. The defendant was asked if there were any more drugs in the vehicle and he said there were more in the boot. He claimed he was looking after the cannabis for someone else. Mr Parker said police lifted the spare tyre and discovered 28 bags of cannabis - 53.4 grams, worth £570 on the streets. Wilson-Graham's home was searched and officers found digital scales, snap seal bags and cannabis grinders. http://www.pendletoday.co.uk/barnoldswickearbynews/Barnoldswick-cannabis-dealer-is-spared.6253166.jp
